Antique and historical masonry requires special care and attention.  Stone and masonry work, no matter how delicate, is often exposed to constant abuse by the elements.  The sun bakes it, the wind wears it down, and the brutal icey winter can cause cracks and other serious damage.  If left uncared for, masonry can quite literally crumble away.
